Is the annual March for Life still relevant?
If one were to judge by the almost non-existent reporting by the media and the interest of only a handful of politicians, one would be inclined to come to the conclusion that the effort of 7,000 to 8,000 people who come to Parliament Hill to demand justice for the unborn, is a complete failure. So why keep on having that demonstration?
Because it is the right thing to do. Slavery was not abolished immediately after some brave people like Wilberforce started to speak out against it. It took years, but it did eventually happen.
Some of the compelling reasons why we keep going:
* One cannot deny that a just society cannot be built on the blood of the unborn.
* One cannot deny that the basic human right is the right to life and that the life in the womb is uncontestably human.
* One cannot deny that abortion on demand has become a way to deal with contraceptive failure or just about any frivolous reason one can think of.
* One cannot deny that the number of abortions has skyrocketed. The banality of evil proves that what was once an unspeakable act is now completely commonplace.
Since 1969, 3.5 million babies have been aborted, that is 10 per cent of the Canadian population. One in three pregnancies ends in abortion.
* One cannot deny that we are well advanced on the slippery slope and we are being prepared to accept euthanasia, the use of embryos for scientific purposes, killing of defective newborns, designer babies, etc.
* One cannot deny that for 40 years pro-choice language has held sway to replace normal speak with words like "product of conception," "fetal matter," "interrupted pregnancy" to hide the truth of what is actually going on.
The truth about the tragic consequences of abortion for society, the physical and psychological harm to women and men has consistently been withheld or downplayed in our publications and press.
Should this go on unchallenged? The time is now to speak out for the voiceless and most vulnerable of our human family.
This year the March for Life is going to be held on May 14. Busloads of people come from all over Ontario and Quebec to stand up for Life on the Hill. Some buses will be going from Pembroke as well.
Renfrew County Right to Life in co-operation with the Diocese of Pembroke is organizing this transportation.
Will we see you on the bus or on the Hill?
