Protect the unborn too
Times and Transcript, Sept. 14/09
To The Editor:
With reference to the article: "Protect N.B. Babies from at-risk mothers" in the Times & Transcript Aug. 28, I would like to make the following comments:
Although I commend the N.B. Child Death Review Committee in pressuring the province to establish protection policy to protect unborn babies of pregnant mothers who indulge in drugs and alcohol consumption, I find it unfortunate that they place emphasis on babies 'once delivered,' as they so carefully worded it.
Why not take it one step further to provide protection for all unborn babies 'not delivered' and lobby the government and our 'unelected' court judges to stop the needless deaths of unborn babies at the Morgentaler Abortion Clinic in Fredericton?
In the last 40 years 25,000 New Brunswick babies have been aborted, including 8,000 at the Morgentaler clinic. No wonder we have trouble trying to maintain our population.
I noted in the same article that Bernard Richard, New Brunswick Child and Youth Advocate, is also in favour of provincial policy to protect babies of pregnant women 'once delivered.' Talk about hypocrisy!
No mention of the babies 'not delivered' who are being aborted every day. And as he worded it, "We're talking about very, very vulnerable children yet to be born."
Furthermore, I challenge the above mentioned committee and Mr. Richard to lobby Judge Paulette Garnett of the Court of Queens bench to reconsider allowing the N.B. Women's Advocacy Group to represent New Brunswick women during the impending lawsuit by Morgentaler against the New Brunswick Government (read: taxpayers) to force us to pay for abortions at his private clinic when the majority of citizens are against abortion.
At the same time they should lobby her and Court of Appeal Chief Justice, Ernest Drapeau to remove Morgentaler as a representative for New Brunswick women since he would be in conflict of interest as he stands to gain financially.
