NB Right to Life Executive Director Peter Ryan made the following comments on Henry Morgentaler's appointment yesterday to the Order of Canada:

"The appointment is a disgrace, and fills me with shame for our country.

"It’s one thing for a man to literally get away with murder, as this man has for years. It’s totally another thing for the Queen’s representative to honor a man who is responsible for the death of tens of thousands of innocent children.

"This is a defining moment for Canada: are we for life or death? Our country was founded on a belief in God and life. To honor an abortionist is a rejection of our heritage; an affront to the living God, and an insult to all who believe in God and life.

"This appointment shows how out of touch our elites can be with ordinary Canadians and the values they hold dear. I think of all who fought and died for our country. This is not what they died for.

"The appointment brings dishonour to the Order of Canada. It must be revoked. It cannot stand."
