Minister Failing to Respect Law
"Abortion on demand is against our Medicare law. In saying the doctors will provide as much or more abortion access as the Chalmers, which had abortion on demand, the minister is outside the law. Not to mention he is flouting his moral responsibility: arranging the taking of life is surely not the business of government.
"Similarly, if these doctors do abortions on demand, they will violate the law and defraud Medicare. They and their hospitals will also contravene the fundamental law of medicine - the Hippocratic prohibition against taking human life."
New Brunswick Right to Life is calling upon Premier Lord to make clear his the government sees an essential difference between medically necessary abortions and abortion on demand, and to enact this legislatively. Otherwise, he loses a big part of his rationale for not funding the Morgentaler clinic.
We are also disappointed in the pro-abortion tenor of public remarks by MLA Victor Boudreau, the Liberal health critic. We call upon Shawn Graham to make clear he does not favor abortion on demand as practised at the Chalmers.
