Letter on 2007 conference in Moncton - Times and Transcript

To The Editor:

This past weekend I attended the 2007 National Pro-Life Conference at the Crowne Plaza Hotel held in co-operation with Campaign Life Coalition and Life Canada.

I would like to thank the organizers of NB Right to Life: Peter Ryan, Susan Legere, Linda and Moe Arsenault and Yoli Singson for an insightful, thought- provoking conference.

I am still amazed that the atrocity of abortion is a legal "right' of women here in Canada. What amazes me most, though, is the fact that Canada is the only nation belonging to the UN that refused to sign a resolution directly following 9/11 preserving our global right to life in the fight against terrorism. Apparently, this compromised Canada's world view on abortion!

People say that this is not a black and white issue, that there are too many grey areas. I challenge anyone who is pro-choice to research the consequences of abortion regarding a woman's physical, emotional, and psychological health. There is no grey!

The link between abortion and breast cancer, abortion and the woman's risk of future pre-term birth, and the risk of her future babies' and her own health are just a few of the physical health risks, not to mention the psychological effects that statistics say will occur, not maybe occur!

To think we are trying to lower medical costs and wait times! We do not hear of the risks in the media. We are led to believe that a women's "right" to her body is more important than her "right" to know exactly what is involved in the abortion process. The testimonies of post-abortive women at this conference are what we need to hear!

These women are no longer silent and are shedding light on the evils of abortion first hand.

The healing required after an abortion is far greater than the healing required from carrying an unplanned pregnancy to term, and women are often not aware of this for years to come. Many statistics prove this. Our media needs to portray this!

As a New Yorker transplanted to Moncton, Canada's anti-life sentiment saddens me. I pray that we can change our views on abortion and see these pre- born babies as lives God intended from conception. I pray, as well, for the healing of post-abortive women.

Most people do not realize a pre-born baby's heart beats at 18 days after conception, that she has fingerprints at nine weeks, that she has a sense of touch, comfort and pain, at a mere 10 weeks, and her first smile comes at 12 weeks after conception.

Let us not be swayed by the media's portrayal of the simplicity of abortion. I challenge anyone, Christian or not, to become informed and know the facts.

May God bless Canada.
